The Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site consists of four contiguous national parks—Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho—and three provicial parks—Mount Robson, Mount Assiniboine and Hamber. This striking mountain landscape was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. It includes the Burgess Shale fossil site, well known for its fossil remains of soft-bodied marine animals.
The Columbia Valley Botanical Gardens (CVBG) is both a plant museum and a community based organization working for sustainability, education and conservation of grasslands and gardens.
Focusing on athletics, this public outdoor park offers soccer and baseball fields, a skatepark and a field house. Public washrooms, change rooms and concession is also located on-site.
One of many parks that stretch along the Rocky Mountain range, Height of The Rockies Provincial Park covers 68,000 ha and is an important habitat for grizzly bears, black bears, cougars, moose, mule deer, elk and mountain goats. Activities include horseback riding, hiking, fishing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
Located at Dorothy Lake, opposite the Pynelogs Cultural Centre, this public park offers baseball fields as well as tennis courts. Botanical gardens may also be found here.
This municipally-operated park is located on 12th Avenue. It is a small neighbourhood park that offers leisurely green space.
Located on Panorama's doorstep, the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Park is 34,947 ha (86,358 acres) of pristine wilderness. There is no road access into the park, and motorized vehicles are prohibited, including helicopters. What is left is over 137 km (85 mi) of hiking and horse riding trails.
